Barter Bucket: 7/30/11

Another world, another time. In the age of wonder.

A thousand years ago this land was green, until the Bucket cracked. A single piece was lost, a shard of the Bucket. Then strife began, and people began charging for bits and single models. Here in the castle of the Bucket, Santa Cruz Warhammer took control. Now the bits flow freely once more. Now the Bucket hangs above a shaft of air and fire. Once more gamers gather at the Bucket. Once more they replenish their bits bins. The Bucket...

The Bucket has one purpose, gamers helping other gamers. It's a place to trade the stuff you have laying around, the stuff you're not using and get the stuff you do need. No more buying whole sets for just one model, no more buying overpriced single bits. This concept is kept alive by the cooperative spirit of all of us.

Make sure your email gets to me by Thursday for it to post that week, emails go to miksminis at gmail dot com. Please keep them simple and concise with details, and limit your requests for needs and haves to three items each. This will turn a shotgun effect of a huge list crossing your fingers hoping for a bite to a more streamlined surgical bits hunt. It will also keep the Bucket itself compact and efficient.

Remember, change comes from within...your bits box!

And AGAIN: if you care about your fellow bloggers and their work, please link the Honor Roll on your blog. Grab the jpg from this post and use this link underneath:

It would be really appreciated!

This is the END

John and I dreamt up the Heroes of Armageddon in December, during some regular banter session at his house. We originally had the idea to do two armies, but Dave Taylor convinced us we should think a bit bigger, so we started fresh..and bigger. But the whole thing really became real with the image above. I had asked Chris Miller, the amazing artist from Minions of the Monster Master, to do another piece for the Armageddon Charity Drive. Chris was responsible for the Stormwardens Artwork and I asked him to drum up something for a charity drive about the heroes of armageddon. After that we moved Yarrick closer and bang...there is the iconic image that you all have seen everywhere for the last 3 1/2 months: a real masterpiece. Contact Chris if you want to buy a print or hire him for something.

Tonight, Saturday evening the drive will end. The armies are done, the Battlefoam bags packed for Games Day in Chicago and the Paypal buttons will be removed, Saturday Night LATE.

I already feel a bit empty. John and I and all the team members have been so engrossed in this project, that it is hard to believe we won't be emailing each other daily anymore, we won't be checking emails constantly about new development, checking Paypal to see how it's going or talking about new ideas or models for the drive.
Despite many serious discussions and even a few feisty moments, I feel proud to call all the teamleaders who worked on this my brothers. Having you all in the bloghosphere means a lot to me, it's like I have a bunch of friends, although I have never met you and maybe never will. Despite that I know your hearts are in the right place, your work ethic is above and beyond and your talent as modelers amazing. I love all of you.

I will be proud and happy to announce the winners on Sunday and have John represent us at Games Day in Chicago next week.

...if you want to win one of these armies....you have one day left. PayPal link on the right.

Till next year.

Why are we working on Heroes of Armageddon?

The Heroes of Armageddon Project is almost over....in a few days we will announce the winners and the amount raised, you have until Saturday Evening to contribute.
We have all worked extremely long hours on this thing and you know what? I has been GREAT. We modeled and painted for a worthy cause, so it's a double feelgood exercise. Now to the cause.
Everyone should check in with Doctors without Borders Newsfeed. I have been checking in with them every week and it's astounding to read about problems that no one seems to care about, except organisations like DWB. Sure, in the papers and online you read about Darfur, the NATO led war on Lybia or the unrest in the Middle East. But there are many forgotten conflicts, epidemics and neglect of people, young and old, just like you and me.
Promise yourself to spend 10 minutes today reading the DWB newsfeed. It's amazing how hard the doctors, nurses and other personnel work to save people's lives. It sound cheesy, but it isn't. It's real. Read and then find 5 bucks or so to help them out. And a big thanks to everyone who already has done so.

Below are a few startling images of refugees in South Sudan, where DWB is in the middle between North South fighting over independence, food and power.

 More images here

It's really amazing that together us gamers, modelers and painters can make a difference. It's real stuff and we are REALLY helping.

Heroes of Armageddon - Final Weekly Drawing = Bolter & Chainsword Swag!

Alright folks, the last of our weekly drawings comes to you from the Crew at the Bolter and Chainsword.

B&C and esspecially Kurgan the Lurke have been HUGE in helping us promote this project just as they were last year with the Storm Wardens. They have posted many, many times and Kurgan has sent out multiple MASS emails to all the members to draw attention. They also commisioned their in house artist to create this banner, which has been on the home page for the last 3 months:
Every post on B&C had a corresponding spike in the donations to Heroes of Armageddon Project, and we thank them and all the B&C Forum readers for helping to make this years project such a success.

Just like last year the Bolter and Chainsword donated a deck of their unobtainable and awesome B&C playing cards and a sweet B&C patch. I got to see these last year, and had to give them up to the winners, and have had another set sitting here which I will once again not get to keep.

Many readers on the forum have been pulling their hair out, going crazy wanting these two prizes, but the forum gave them to us, so we can give them to YOU.

We will be drawing two winners this Sunday morning at random from the HoA donations.

The Bolter and Chainsword also will be sending 30 blood Drop dice (10 of each color) to the Blood Angel army winner. They started out as a Space Marine Forum after all...

Bolter and Chainsword also created FOUR of these awesome Purity Seal Icons with litanies created by Rob Ellis II aka -Q-.
DONATIONS WILL CLOSE AT MIDNIGHT PST SATURDAY !

DONATIONS WILL CLOSE AT MIDNIGHT PST SATURDAY !

Sunday morning we will pull 2 winners for the patch and cards, and then later at 6PM Eastern and 3PM PST, we will go Jawaballs Live on USTREAM  to pick the 4 army winners.

So, if for some reason you have been holding out to toss in a few bucks, for crying out loud, do it before it's too late!

WIP shots of Mega Nobz for Heroes of Armageddon

Here's a shot of the Mega Nobz I am painting for Ghaz's Horde for the Heroes of Armageddon. They call themselves Lil' Thrakas and also painted their armour yellow, just like Ghazghkull himself. Check his WIP shot out here

The yellow colour came out nice. i used bronzed flesh, then sponged metal on it, then sepia wash. It looks cool. No they are not bad moons, just something different.

A few more days to go on the Heroes. Make sure to donate some, maybe you will win one of the armies!!

Heroes of Armageddon: one of the last weekly winners!

We are ONE day away (tomorrow, monday) from showing the world the completed four armies that will be given away NEXT sunday. But before we go there, here's one of the last weekly prize winners.

This wonderful model of Lord Dante was donated to the Heroes of Armageddon by Joel Jameson, who himself was one of the weekly winners and wanted to give something back.

So here we go, the winner of this excellent model is...

Jonathan Hamilton, Tregear
Australia

Congrats to Jonathan and thank you for donating for Doctors without Borders!

Next wednesday the last give away: the LONG awaited and super secret prizes from Bolter and Chainsword. There is NO forum who has done so much work for our cause. Join them and be active, it's truly a wonderful and generous community. The prizes from B&C will be given away on sunday, right before the main prizes.

thanks
